It was a memorable afternoon made special by the presence of readers, friends, family and well-wishers who came together to celebrate the book and the journey behind it. For months, and sometimes years, its characters exist largely within the imagination of the person writing them. Publication changes that relationship: the story leaves the author’s desk and begins a life of its own in the minds of readers. The launch of Birds of Destiny was one of those moments when that transition became tangible for me. What had existed first as an idea, then as a manuscript and finally as a published novel was now being held, discussed and interpreted by other people. Every book has two journeys: the journey through which it is written, and the journey it begins when it finally reaches its readers. About Birds of Destiny Birds of Destiny is a story shaped by questions of fate, human relationships and the unexpected turns through which lives become intertwined. Like much of my writing, the novel is interested not merely in what happens to its characters, but in the larger question that follows them: how much of our lives is determined by our choices, and how much is carried towards us by forces we do not fully understand?
